İbrahim Ethem Tolun was an important businessman and an olive oil producer of his time. He was born in 1923, right at the time when the Turkish Republic was founded. He was a determined; hardworking and dynamic person just like the citizens of the newly established Republic of Turkey.

The family recalls their grandfather saying, "Bring the boy, I'll raise him and teach him the business." Thereupon, Ethem Bey canceled his registration from Robert College and returned to his village.

Ethem Bey, whose business venture started in 1938, was first given a horse carriage. His grandfather raised him from scratch as an apprentice and made him run all kinds of jobs. Ethem Bey, who operated the olive oil factory in Karaağaç until 1950, established Turkey's first integrated vegetable oil production factory in Havran in 1950. Apart from this factory, he operated a soap factory in Burhaniye too. Throughout his 43 years of business life, he has always been among the leading names of the sector with his innovative and entrepreneurial approach. He became the first president of the Burhaniye Chamber of Commerce; he successfully fulfilled his duty as the Chairman of the Olive and Olive Oil Commission at EBSO.

Ethem Bey was sadly diagnosed with cancer in 1981 and passed away in a very short time.
